3 DRUNK WOMEN HELD FOR ASSAULTING COPS IN BHAYANDER ON 'DRY DAY

MUMBAI : Four drunk women, all in their early 20s, have been held for allegedly assaulting police personnel in Bhayander on Tuesday dawn. The cops on night patrol duty were intervening after the quartet were disturbing the peace of the area in the dead of the night. The police intervened as they were publicly drinking on a dry day due to Gandhi Jayanti.

The women,all friends are Mamta Meher (25), Alisha Pillai (23), Kamal Shrivastav (22), residents ofn Mira Road and Jessi Dcosta (22) from Nalasopara, had attended a party at Mira Road, where they had drinks and at around 0200 hours on Tuesday,the friends came to the Shahid Bhagatsingh ground, near Maxus Mall in Bhayander, for another session of drinks even though it was a dry day due to Gandhi Jayanti. After boozing, the women got into a verbal argument and soon  a large crowd of men arrived at the ground. Three police personnel, including Assistant Police Inspector Manisha Patil, on night patrol reached the spot and found the women fighting. We  tried to calm down the women who turned abusive and began manhandling the male constables she said and as it was Gandhi Jayanti the women were drinking in public. Meantime on social media the fight between the accused and police went viral.

The video showed  the women accused using obscene  language while speaking to a male constable and they tried to snatch the fibre glass baton from  the cop. They even tore his uniform  and badge in the melee said Patil. The police  is seen  calming them down but they went out of control and assaulted the cops. The women also manhandled  API Patil, who then  with her baton thrashed the four in self defence the video shows.The mob then are shown clapping the lady police official for controlling the four accused.

Mamta Meher the accused works in a call centre, while Pillai and Shrivastava and  Dcosta work in Mumbai firms.

The four have been booked under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the IPC.

We have arrested Meher,Pillai,and Srivastava while Dcosta is absconding said and when produced before the Thane court on Tuesday the trio have have been remanded in police custody while we have sent a team to arrest Dcosta from Nalla Sopara where she resides.
