GUARD ALERTS LPG LEAK FROM CONTAINER AT VASAI, LEAKAGE PLUGGED

 Fire brigade and IOC officials plugging the gas leak from a container at Vasai.

Mumbai : An alert guard of a 50 wagon LPG container goods train smelt gas leakage from a container and immediately alerted the Deputy Station Superintendent (DySS) at Vasai on Wednesdayearly morning. A major mishap was thus averted though no Express or Mail train schedule was affected as the container train was on a siding at Vasai Road station.

 

According to WR official, a 50 wagons carrying LPG from Bharat Petroleum Comoany Limited (BPCL)  refilling plant at Uran was proceeding to New Delhi when at a siding at Vasai when Jagjit Singh Sur,guard heard a noise and noticed the seventh container from the guard side gas was leaking from the top lid of the wagon said Ravinder Bhakar,CPRO,WR at around 0510 hours. He immediately alerted the DySS,Vasai who then informed the Vasai civic Fire Brigade and also the gas company said the official. Fire Brigade personnel rushed to the spot at around 0950 hours and instructed locals not to light a match or cigarettes as LPG is highly flammable material and soon Indian Oil Company(IOC)   officials reached the spot at around 1130 hours as the IOC have a depot at Vasai and plugged the leakage by 1200 hours. The goods train had stopped under the Ambadi overhead bridge and leakage was observed near the Valve assembly of the container. The Fire Brigade and WR switched off electric supply and also issued instructions  not to use mobile phones said sources. The goods train finally departed to its destination at around 1410 hrs said a WR official.
