Mumbai:The powerful gutkha mafia has not set up base in a Mira Road flat, where a full fledged manufacturing unit was on, which the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Thane raided in association with the Naya Nagar police.Earlier, gutkha used to smuggled from the nearby Gujarat through the National Highway No 8 Mumbai Ahmedabad but now the mafia have started to manufacture right inside a rented flat!
The owner of the unit, Sachin Kashid has been arrested and the Naya Nagar police have seized sacks of "manufactured" gutkha and also seized sophisticated machines which was used to manufacture the gutkha, besides satchets, totally worth Rs 6.34 lakhs, said a FDA official. The raid was conducted in a high rise building located above Hotel Jalaja Inn, in Mira Road, where the unit was flourishing,said Manek Jadhav, a FDA official.
We have registered a FIR under the relevant sections of the IPC and regulations of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011 has been registered in this context at the Naya Nagar police station, said Jadhav.
