MUMBAI : Palghar  Superintendent of Police (SP), Gaurav Singh has ordered an inquiry into the allegations  that a Police Sub Inspector (PSI) of the Palghar police had illegally detained and assaulted two youths, including a 15 year old tribal boy last week.

The assault  Shailesh Santosh Kusekar(20) and Shailesh Bendya (15)  both residents of Dasturpada in Palghar, was allegedly done at the behest of an builder who had encroached their land and when there were protests, the builder allegedly approached PSI Sharad Pawar of Palghar police for help and the cop picked up the two youths and brutally assaulted them in the police station and also illegally detained them for the entire day.  After being released from the illegal detention, the families of the victims approached Rajendra Gavit, MP from Palghar for his intervention. Gavit raised the issue during the District Planning Committee (DPC) meeting headed by the District Collector Dr Prashant Narnaware and demanded action against the said cop.

The minor boy was not present in Dasturpada since the past two months, but PSI Pawar picked him up and illegally detained and brutally assaulted him in the police lockup, said Gavit.  The said cop has misused his power on the behest of the builder who is known to encroach upon on tribal land to construct illegal structures, said Gavit, yet the police sided with the builder and beat up the two youths.

Meantime, Gaurav Singh, SP, Palghar said he was aware about the incident and an inquiry has been instituted and we are gathering all details, and we will surely take action against PSI Pawar if he is found guilty during the inquiry.
